Flower Gardening
Though most flowers are seasonal but careful planning can make your garden bloom in every season. All the flower gardeners will advice you to do the following:
- Spring is a good time to plant bulbs like crocuses, snowdrops, and everyone’s favourite tulips. They should be planted in mid-autumn to get best results.
- Summer season is for perennials and if given proper care and attention then they can last through a few years.
- Though autumn is a hard season for flowering plants but if you are a determined gardener then you can plant asters and ornamental grasses for this season.
- Winter blooms include amaryllis, hyacinth, narcillus, winter jasmine or winter honeysuckle. Plan carefully and your garden will bloom every season.
Vegetable Gardening
If you follow proper procedures and take full care, then you can produce cheaper and better tasting vegetables like other vegetable gardeners. You just need to keep following points in mind:
- Select a suitable place for vegetable gardening i.e. a place with proper drainage system, good and deep soil, suitable air flow, right sunlight and apt protection from animals.
- Prepare the soil properly by adding organic material and cultivating it. Remove weeds too.
- Determine the type and quantity of fertilizers according to the soil and plants. For e.g. leafy plants like spinach and lettuce need more nitrogen while root plants like carrots, turnips need more potash.
- Pay attention to garden arrangements. You can plants vegetables like spinach, radish, beet roots etc. together as they need less space whereas potatoes and pumpkins require more space. Place tall growing plants at the back and shorter ones in the front of your garden to let them have adequate sunlight.
- Plant your garden at the right time of the year or if the weather is adverse then you can grow plants indoors and later plant them outside.
- Give right amount of water.
Organic Gardening
Organic foods are grown without chemical, pesticides or herbicides. Like professional gardeners you can produce such organic food in your own backyard by keeping a few things in mind:
- Switch to the alternative methods of pest control.
- Avoid using pesticides and chemical fertilizers.
- Do not water plants too much.
- Use a balanced approach of feeding the soil and not the plants.
- Do not over use fertilizers, not even organic ones.
Landscape Gardening
Landscape gardeners can turn your entire place into admirable scenery. And even you can do so, if you have a clear idea of how you want your landscape to look like and then plan and design accordingly. To add a personal touch you can decorate your landscape with flowers and even wind chimes.
